ISF Importer Security Filing - Miami Customs Brokers

The Importer Security Filing (ISF), or more commonly called 10+2, requires containerized cargo information to be transmitted to Customs Border and Protection (CBP) at least 24 hours before the goods are loaded onto an ocean vessel headed to the U.S. Failure to comply could result in monetary penalties, increased inspections and delay of cargo.

This rule applies to import cargo arriving in the United States by vessel only and not by other transportation methods.

The ISF requires importers to provide 10 data elements to CBP. Before merchandise arriving by vessel can be imported into the United States, the importer or the licensed customs broker must electronically submit certain advance cargo information to CBP in the form of the ISF. The data elements that must be provided with the ISF include:

• Seller

• Buyer

• Importer of record number / FTZ applicant identification number

• Consignee number(s)

• Manufacturer (or supplier)

• Ship to party

• Country of origin

• Commodity Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS) number

The following two additional data elements must be submitted as early as possible, but no later than 24 hours prior to the ship’s arrival at a U.S. port:

• Container stuffing location

• Consolidator
